Long December

I'm sitting here at Cindy's crib waiting for her to get ready. Tonight we're off to Last Call to discuss the details of our New Year's Eve gig there this Friday. Mel, Lou, and Greg are coming through it seems so we'll hang for a lil bit.

It's been a long month, between working at the new Economy, finishing my EMT course, and working at the bar, and Christmas shopping, it has been a very stressful December. However, things are a lot calmer now and I've finally found the time to sit down and update this thing.

Working at Economy is probably stressful enough in and of itself because of the commute and the I-need-it-done-yesterday attitude of the new owners. Getting to work takes me over 2 hours (since I am temporarily without a car) and the owners are slave drivers. There's no formal lunch break, and no pre-determined work schedule.

I've been entrusted to build a phone system and computer network from the ground up at our Boro Park location, which took me almost two weeks to complete since the phone system we are using was built in the Jurassic Era. Add to that almost single handedly putting together a 149-page arts & crafts catalog, since our new owners did not deem it necessary to hire full-time help. That took the entire month to complete on it's own, and now I am about a day and a half from converting all the pages into their final PDF format which we will send to the printer on Monday.

As of Monday I have about 10 days to completely renovate our online store before the catalog reaches our customers. Somehow, I'm supposed to do that while simultaneously putting together a network at our Newark, NJ warehouse and integrating it to work seamlessly with our Brooklyn offices.

Yes, so through all this stress I find myself searching my mailbox expectantly like a child awaits Santa Claus for my state certification to arrive so I can escape the hell-hole that is Economy and beginning working as something I truly enjoy.

Christmas was fun. We all got together at Jennifer's house and Rene and Fernando cooked. Well... I'll have to finish updating later because Cindy is kicking me off her computer....
